SketchUp Pro 2014 is here! With this release, SketchUp Pro is continuing to accelerate under Trimble. SketchUp Pro 2014 has got some big improvements in the SketchUp ecosystem.
New Features and Improvements
SketchUp Pro 2014 offers you the following new features and improvements:
3D Warehouse
- More Model Information: Now, information like the file size and the number of polygons and used materials is displayed next to the model.
- A New Look: 3D Warehouse has been rebuilt from the ground up and is easier to use and it looks a million times better too.
- WebGL Viewer: Preview models in full 3D before downloading them into your project (WebGL compatible browser needed).
- Direct Model Upload: Upload 3D models directly from your web browser without the need to open SketchUp Pro (downloading was already possible).
- Upload Bigger Models: The maximum file size of models that can be uploaded has increased with a factor 5: from 10 to 50 megabytes.
Interoperability
- BIM Classifier (Pro only): Tag geometry with industry-standard object types (walls, slabs, roofs, etc.) and improve its compatibility with other BIM tools.
- IFC Export (Pro only): Export an IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) file, wrapping up your model with 3D geometry and valuable metadata for use in another BIM application.
- Ruby 2.0: A shiny new platform for extension developers with improved support for non-english characters, section plane plugins, text and dimension tools, and more.
3D Modeling & Performance
- New Arc Tools: Draw arcs using three different methods:
- 2-Point Arc Tool: pick two end points and a third that defines the 'bulge'.
- Center Point Arc: Pick the center point of your arc and then pick two points on the edge.
- Pie Arc Tool: this one works the same as the Center Point Arc, but creates a wedge-shaped face.
- Faster Shadows: An average speed improvement of 15x when working with shadows in big and complicated models.
LayOut 2014 (Pro Only)
- Auto-Text: Page numbering! Use presets or your own Auto text tags (e.g. 'Today's Date', 'Page Number' or 'Project Title') in your documents to improve accuracy and save hours of repetitious work.
- Smart Labels: Labels you add are automatically pre-populated with relevant information, like the area when labeling a face, the length when labeling an edge or the name when labeling a component.
- Improved Vector Rendering: Another 15x improvement in speed for your vector-rendered model views.
- Snappier Performance: Long-document functionality has been much improved and is now faster than ever.
Upgrading
SketchUp Pro 2013 users
Users of SketchUp Pro 2013 will get their SketchUp Pro 2014 license for free. Please contact your reseller directly for obtaining your new license.
SketchUp Pro 8 (and earlier versions) users
Please purchase a year-long maintenance program (pricing: see below) from the reseller that issued your original license.
